Purchased an "OLD" GM Hydra-Matic Trans..

I purchased my Father-In-Law and Engine and tranny this week to use in his 26 Model A project.

Engine is a 307 Chevy #3970020 (1969-1973)

Trans looks like it has been there forever, But I can't seem to find any information on it.

I purchased everything complete and running for only $200 and think I got a bargain..

The Trans is small, has a Pan on the side as well as the bottom.
Tag is on the very rear with this info:
Hydra-Matic
CH 55 16940

Looks like clean motor oil inside, a small dip stick and no cooler lines.

Parts list? Shifter to use? Proper care? Use? Original Vehicle?

Any info would be appreciated.......

This link will give you an idea of what these trannys came out of. I have tried several times to find more info about casting and tag numbers but have been successful. They were four speed automatics that were the hot setup in the early sixties, especially for drag racing.

Here is site that has rebuild kits. Email him and see if he can give you more info.
