Not sure if I would be able to use stock vortec pushrods?
I bought a adjustable pushrod and put it about at stock vortec length (7.2in) and turned the motor over and it bent the pushrod not sure if it was to long or the springs where just to strong for the cheap pushrod checker (http://www.summitracing.com/parts/TFS-9000)

I agree, Comp Cams High Tech 5/16" pushrods are expensive at $120 per set and are a bit of overkill if your open spring pressure is less than 400 lb. I have mostly used Comp Cams pushrods because they come in .050" increments and have a .080" wall whereas most aftermarket pushrods have a .060" wall. The last set of pushrods I used were custom Smith Brothers pushrods ( Smith Bros. Push Rods Bend Oregon ) that have .040" oil restriction feed hole. They are best to use when you need restricted oil flow with hydraulic lifters. Smith Bros restricted pushrods are about the same price as Comp Cams pushrods. Some of the high end race engine builders use Manton pushrods ( Manton Pushrods ) which are real expensive which is probably because low demand for those pushrods.

You can invest a lot of money unnecessarily in pushrods. However, be aware that stock type non-hardened mild steel pushrods can fold up like wet spagetti if the open valve spring pressure is higher that 300 lb. Hardened pushrods must be used with guideplates so that eliminates stock or stock replacement pushrods.
