Pushrods Making contact?

Hi all, currently I have 7/16 pushrods in my 454 with a comp cams XE268h cam. (781 large oval port heads) The setup is working well with the exception of the lifter ticking and sewing machine sound it makes. Iíve adjusted the rockers countless times to try and get the noise to stop but there always seems to be a slight ticking sound. I was wondering if maybe the pushrods were coming in contact with the heads or block. Has anyone else had this problem? Would it be worth it to change out the guide plates and pushrods to 3/8 inch? I spoke with the Comp Cams tech and he said that this particular cam makes that noise on some cars, but I still think it should be quieter then it is.

Hard to tell without being able to hear the sound and its intensity. Are you using roller rockers? I have been told they click a little at times, and mine seem to do that a bit.

What type of rockers do you have? I have full roller rockers and they tick also. Did you change something recently? Or has it always made the noise?

What method did you use to adjust them?
Siggy and I posted at the same time.

I actually went from Long slot rockers to full roller rockers and it quieted down a little. I adjust them with the engine running, back them out until they make a little noise, slowly tighten them until the tidcking stops, and then another 1/4 to 1/2 turn.

JamesRS... Very common issue with BBC`s... Be sure to check to see if the pushrod is rubbing up against the inside U of the guide plate... This occurs mainly when the lift on the rocker is at its max... What happens the pushrod gets in a bind as it comes up the and the fulcrum ratio of the rocker passes center and the pushrod draws closer to the inside of the guide plate so the hyd lifter tends to be compressed just slightly and causes a lash to develope mainly at rpm`s of 1500 or more but in some cases even at idle... There should be atleast 1/8" between the pushrod and the inner U part of the guide... (may or may not be your issue...?)

Sometimes an exhaust leak at the cylinder head can sound like a valve train noise.
