With China intentionally putting the US at its mercy (financially) by buying up all the bonds to keep the country from going bankrupt, guess they now have a very solid footing in this country in terms of influencing policy and applying for construction projects. I'd say this is an example of it.

Btw, on a related note, I have both read and heard that the US is experiencing a shortage of welders. but is the shortage significant enough to cause this?

I'm sure the more quality and safety-conscious folks are bound to wonder as to the quality of work the Chinese can deliver. Big difference between a bridge and a Harbor Freight tool.

I have some choice 4 letter words on this one, what a ****** up mess! Faster and cheaper, what a crock! The state of California requires that workers be paid prevailing wages. You supposedly cannot pay non-union wages to under-bid the competition. Crap, with philosophy like this guy spouts, no wonder we're screwed. I am so ******* pissed off right now, hell let's get their ******** government over to run our country also, they can't do any *******worse than the present ******* rulers of our country. I would be embarrassed to spout this BS that I just heard, we need to have a few public lynchings. Jeez Bill, thanks for the info but now I need a few Valium to calm down. Uffda! Makes my blood boil!

SORRY DINGER BUT>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Let's not forget!! General Electric

Keep your eye on Waukesha, Wisconsin......Their biggest employer just moved out.

General Electric is planning to move its 115-year-old X-ray division from Waukesha, Wis., to Beijing. In addition to moving the headquarters, the company will invest $2 billion in China and train more than 65 engineers and create six research centers. This is the same GE that made$5.1 billion in the United States last year. but paid no taxes-the same company that employs more people overseas than it does in the united States.
So let me get this straight. President Obama appointed GE Chairman Jeff Immelt to head his commission on job creation (job czar).

Immelt is supposed to help create jobs. I guess the President forgot to tell him in which country he was supposed to be creating those jobs.

Take and learn some Chinese cause you gotta know who and what you all are up against. This china thing is a big team, they pool all there resources and the big red thumb holds some weight, they build and own half of the big equipment in the the world.

We as free capitalists cant have a open economy that offers the best man his chance for his cup of cream to rise to the top and then shut out the competition. If anyone is gonna play ball in the global free economic world then get your own poop in a group. If the other guy is winning then you need to get better and up your own game not shoot down his.

Maybe stop opening up the big jobs to the competition and have the US state build the bridge? ,,,might as well pack your bags and take the family to a visit over to hop sings kitchen. Capitalism is open for business.

Sadly the universal rule for awarding big projects is that the low dollar bid gets in. These "other" guys are willing to live in a tent for 24 months to please their boss and the same can be said for there families. I would want to know all about how the job was lost? was the bid honest and fair to all bidders or was it written wrong? Hopefully the spec was written in the US
