q-jet bogging down
Hello,
I am having troble with my q-jet carb.I installed a basic kit and it starts good but, when I like go up a hill or take off the car will bogg down and acts like it is running on 6 cylinder's.Then,it will take off and run good,until I stop again.Then it will do the same thing. I thought it might be the secondary air door It still might be but, what else could it be?It is VERY cold collared when I first start it.It won't idle,until I set there and give it gas for awhile.Couls it be a vaccum hose on wrong? or, I have one plugged it's the first one on the passenger side on bottom. This engine should burn off the tire's when I take off.It did when I had it in a Caprice.It will now just barly take off and slowly at that. Please I really need the advice.I like it to run as good as it could. |

What Q~Jet is it? Electric or mechanical (computer or non) , and does it have Vacuum secondary's? The Choke may be set backwards..check to be sure it isn't closing as it warms. Is it electric? Check the Vacuum at the secondary Door pull off, you may not be getting any vacuum. Also By eye, be sure they open by hand with the throttle. If you get the linkage riding one atop the other on the throttle body, It will lock the secondary instead of opening them..a common error. I assume you changed the primary pump, and didn't tear it installing it. The fuel pump may be marginal, now that it has more pressure to feed with a rebuilt carb. Check the Volume/pressure. Did you install the new CARB filter under the fuel line inlet nut? Have you inspected your fuel filters? Doc

Hello,
The chioke is electric. It's a non computer. Where is the vaccum on the 2nd ary air door pulloff? I didn't change anything about the choke. I installed a new filter for the carb Where is the fuel filter for the gas tank? It's a 1977 Nova.4 door. I installed a new spray pump.I also put a new BB. I had another person tell me that I could get a spring and a wing nut and make the secondary spring on the secondary tighter. I cleaned the carb real good. No,the 4 barrel is working real good.I had the egr vaccum hose in the wrong place and the throttle stuck all the way down.Wide open. I fixed it scared me,thought I was going to wreck it. After it runs awhile it will run sorta good but, it still hesitates a little. |
