Q's on 454 marine block

A 454 4 bolt main engine out of a boat .030 but dropped a valve and needs one sleeve. Is this any good?
My intention is to build it and put it in my truck

It's as good as the machinist doing the work, a properly installed sleeve will work just fine.

There are certain differences between automotive and marine applications, but I can't see how a sleeve in a marine motor would act differently than a sleeve in an automotive application. Check with a certified marine machinist.

bigalow,

The engine doesn't know it is in a marine application.
The only thing to watch for is that after the sleeve is installed and bored out to match the other cylinders is that the cylinder/s next to the sleeve need to be honed straight.
Also check the connecting rod to see if it got a little bend in it. If it is bent replace it. I think I would just replace it when you have the new piston installed.
If you plan on running this engine in a street application then the camshaft will need to be changed also. The marine engine must produce horsepower as soon as the throttle is cracked open in order to propel the boat out of the water and onto "plane" with only the bottom third of the boat touching the water. With a camshaft producing that kind of torque the engine will not pass smog testing.

thank you I will get a new rod plus a new torque cam.
Would a turbo 400 be a good choice for a trans??
Going in a 54 pickup w 3.23 gears
I have read the TH series trans's rob alot of HP 25%

I'm a MOPAR MAN and this is my first big chevy in a Hotrod- Excited.
They say "once you go Mopar you never go Chevy" But maybe its the otherway around??? HMMM?

There is difference in a marine Vs automotive. First of all marine blocks are 4 bolt mains, added piston to wall clearance, more than likely big port heads depending on hp rating 330 and up are the big ports, and they also have different cam grinds. they will use oil in a street application do to the added clearance. In a marine engine the block stay's much cooler than in a automotive application and the piston stays much hotter. That's why they and the extra clearance. Marine engines are set up to run at higher sustained loads at 3000 to 4800 rpm's at over 50% throttle and up to wot for long periods. Also cast with a higher nickle content.
