Post Quadrajet Adjustment

I purchased a rebuilt quarajet carb with an electric choke. I am trying to get this guy adjusted and having problems. With the choke housing straight up the choke will not allow the engine to start. When you rotate the choke housing clpockwise I get a lot of poping almost backfire in carb? I cannot seem to find the right setting. Any suggestions? Davesr@trianglesalesusa.com

The electric choke should adjuct like the old bi-metal spring models. Start with everything cold and the switch off. Open the throttle about 1/3 open, and there should be just a little bit of spring tension when the choke butterflies are pushed with your finger. You only need enough spring pressure to close the butterflies. You can adjust the choke back and forth to find the least amount of pressure it takes to close them. That should put you in the ball-park. Make sure the choke is getting power when the key is in the on position, and you should be OK
