Thumbs down Quality Control?????????

Man, do any of these companies still believe in quality control? I recently decided to convert my mustang to electronic ignition instead of the dual-point that's in her. Figuring I'd go with quality over price I bought a MSD distributor, wires, and Blaster2 coil. To my surprise I removed my new 300 dollar distributor from its box to find more play in the shaft than I've seen in most worn out distributors that I've removed from engines. Holding the distributor in my hand I could actually wobble the shaft back and forth and hear it knocking in the housing. I returned it and am awaiting a replacement. If the next one isn't to my satisfaction I am demanding my money back. I know of one other person already who was not happy with MSD, what do some of you guys/gals think? Did I just get a bad one or are they not making them like they used to? Just a bit pissed-off, Don

Everyone that I have known to use any MSD parts are not happy with them and/or have had problems.
My buddy put about $500 into a MSD ignition an had nothing but trouble.
I have had really good luck with Accel ignition parts.
Later,

Question

Why didn't you go with Duraspark II? Saved you a lot of money...

You can even spark it up wih a TFI coil.

I know a lot of people who run MSD stuff, and have NEVER heard of any problems with their products.

I have heard of people installing things (not distributors) incorrectly and having problems.

I just think you got a lemon and probably, I say probably, will be satisfied. I do understand your frustrations.

On the upside...you can send your problem-child MSD parts back to MSD and have them rebuilt/repaired.

Yea Kultulz I thought about finding a Ford system at the junk yard and saving some cash. But those MSD billet distributors sure look sweet. I figured with their distributor and matching red MSD wires and coil it would be a nice look under the hood. Sometimes I don't mind spending a little extra for what I call 'eye candy' . But I'm not spending ten cents for a piece of *****. I'm hoping the replacement is better, if not I guess I'll be visiting some junk yards looking for an old Duraspark system.
Weimer fortunately I bought the stuff from summit and they have a good return policy. They're sending me a replacement which I should get this week. If that's no good I'll either get my money back or maybe try Mallory or Accel. I heard Mr Gasket (who owns Accel) was buying out Mallory as well. Don't know what that means for the future of Mallory.

I am starting to have serious doubts about your commitment to FoMoCo dmorris... :p

<a href="http://www.fordracing.com/" target="_blank">-FORD RACING-</a>

Go to Performance Parts...Punch in duraspark in the search feature and click on control module.

The control module on this setup is MSD, as is the coil. An old distributor (rebuilt-bushings-advance plates-vacuum canister-FORD not Accel) polished up with FORD Hi-Performance copper insert cap and adaptor, custom re-curve, RED Motorsports ignition wires and you will have it.

I would even throw in a wiring diagram to upgrade to a TFI E-Coil. Talk about factory looking.

You really need to get back to a dealer...I am losing you...

Two guys I work with went with the adapter type unit that goes in the original poiint distributer to change it over to electronic. They cost about $65 and both guys are very happy with the results. One was in a 69 Mach 1

Man, looks like I've got some pros and some cons. Hey Croz, do you have just the MSD box or are you using their distributor too? Either way I already sent MSD a letter stating my dissapointment, I'm hoping the replacement distributor gets here by the weekend and is ok (just don't tell Kultulz ).
