quality on M II drop spindles?

A well known company like Speeway Motors are selling Mustang II drop spindles for only 170$ a pair.
Others like Fat Man or TCI sell their dropspindles for like 300$ a pair.

I guess some are forged and some are not?
But would a well known company like Speedway risk their reputation (or more!) by selling dangerous spindles???

I bought mine from Heidts........don't remember what I paid. I try and go by the philosophy that you get what you paid for. If you bought the cheaper ones, and they failed.....I bet you'll remember..........not to slam Speedway. Ask them who makes them and how.

The page in speedway catalog says "heat treated forged steel".I doubt they would misrepresent something like that.

Dropped spindle page..

I'd use them if cost was a factor. I never saw anything come from Speedway that was not adequate quality to use on the street.

I believe that Heidt's spindles are forged offshore, and I'll bet that Speedway gets theirs from an offshore source as well, as do many of the other MII kit manufacturers.

I'd think if it was made in the US, Heidt's would say so.

Heidt's does have a different design than the others in that has the steel spindle pressed into the forged steering knuckle. I don't know if it is any stronger....Heidts says it is.

Thank you for your answers!

I've mailed Speedway and asked about their spindle. The claimed it was forged, yes.
I will probably buy a set from them.

In My Fat Man kit there are GM metric calipers and (i think) 78-88 Camaro rotors fitted to the spindles. Do you know if I have to change bearings when I switch from standard to dropped spindle?

The dropped spindle will probably fit right on, but I read about a guy on the HAMB forum who had trouble with fitting the rotors against the calipers after changing from standard to dropped spindles. On the other hand I think he had Granada rotors and I don't know if that was a Fat Man kit...

If you have bearings in your rotors that are already sized for the MII spindle, then you should be set.
I know that when you get a set of rotors with a fatman kit you do have to change out one of the camaro races to fit the bearing that you get with the kit...I can't remember which one though..

I got no clue why the guy on the HAMB couldn't make his work easily...
