I'm guessing that you are dealing with an aftermarket quarter that does not include the door jamb area, just the first 3/4" or so?

Basically you need to weld it up solid and finish it with a high quality body filler. I would probably plug weld it first and then weld it solid, but that is probably overkill. There is plenty of material available on welding sheetmetal here on the site, and I'm sure if you have any more specific questions you will get a lot of good info from the pros that post here.

I was in a body shop a few weeks ago and they were working on a 69 Camaro that needed two rear quarters. They had one cut off and one already welded in place when I saw it. They had sliced the old panel off at the very top crown of the panel right as it rolled over to the area between it and the trunk opening. The door jamb area was left intact and the old panel was sliced off just as it rolled over to the door jamb area. The other panel was already welded back on and they welded the seems entirely and ground them down and didn't even require body filler. If I had not seen the new panel on the car I would not have suspected it was a replacement. The ground welds look just like virgin metal that had been stripped of paint.

This shop is run by a Hispanic fellow that does a lot of the rods in our area and his work is superb and well known. He has one of the best painters within several hundred miles.
