Am wondering what is the difference in the frame on the 47-54 chevy truck 1/2 and 3/4 ton frames?
Am thinking of installing a Mustang II IFS system in my 49 3/4 ton truck and some the catalogs list it as 1/2 ton with no mention of 3/4. This there some difference in the rail spacing as to why I cant install a IFS system in a 3/4?
I would like to keep the long bed look, so if push comes to shove I would need to find a 1/2 ton frame and extended it. Thanks...Eric

Eric, I don't believe there is any difference from the back of the cab forward. My truck was originally a 3/4 ton. I switched to a 1/2 ton frame swapping over all my parts including axles to the new frame. I think the only difference is the length of th drive shaft (two piece actually).

I was pretty sure that the cab forward was the same. I was thinking of using Chassis Engineering bolt in IFS system but they list it as 1/2 ton only.
I guess I need to email CE and ask them whats up.

Good link to the specification section for the 49's. I've installed a Fatman MII front end on my 3/4 ton without any problems. The difference in the frames seems to start just about at the back of the cab to the rear. Basically the frame rails are parallel on the 3/4 ton and on the 1/2 ton the widen out from the cab back. In the beginning I thought they were the same so I now have a set of frame boxing plates that fit a AD 1/2 ton. Also when looking for a rear end setup I talked to Chassis Eng and finally got out of them that the rear suspension kit they make would n ot work.

Just placed the SBC and tranny in the frame yesterday!! Body to soda blast next week!
