question about boring

My 350 bore is 4.060, does that make it bored .030 over or .060?

I got confused because i didnt know if that .030 or .060 over meant the the overall cylinder bore. Because in order to bore the cylinder .030 over then they would only have to take .015 off the wall (each side). correct?

There's really only one wall in a cylinder. It's easiest to think in terms of bore diameter. If the standard bore diameter is 4 inches, 4.060 inches is .060 inch over.

Any time they talk bore it means overall diameter. But you are also correct in your way of thinking that .030 is .015 off of a side/wall. That opens up the total diameter by .030.

4.060 divided by 2 = 2.030
2.030 squared (2.030 X 2.030) is 4.1209
4.1209 X pie is 12.946189 ( 3.1415 X 4.1209)

The stroke of a 350 Chevrolet is 3.48 inches so 12.946189 X 3.48 is 45.052738 so that is how much 1 cylinder is.

You have 8 cylinders so......... 45.052738 X 8 = 360.42191

Your engine size is 360 cubic inches

A .030 over 350 is 355

Simple math.

Take the bore and divide by 2
Square that
Multiply by Pie.....3.1415

You have just found the area of a circle.

Multiply by the stroke

Multiply by the number of cylinders.

EASY
