question about dodge dakota trans
hey there this 89 dodge dakota i bought has a messed up tranny its an automatic with overdrive there is no reverse at all you can put it in reverse and it does nothin you cant feel it grab like theres even a gear there and it has the forward gears but you have to get the rpms real high befor it will shift the fluid looks good and doesnt smell burnt so can anyone tell me what might be wrong here thanks in advance

My guess is the large spring in the OD section is collapsed and the friction pack it applies is worn out.
pull the pan , look for a broken rear band or strut or servo A common failure of these trannys
