A question about my 283

I have a 1967 Impala that I have been working on for a few years now, off and on. The previous owner told me that the engine was a 283 but I just looked up the suffix code and it reflects that of a 396.

The code I am looking at is on the passenger side of the engine right in front of the valve covers. It reads TI205JH.

Big Block Chevy Suffix Codes 396/402

I found this link on another forum and found the JH and it said:
JH 1969 396 375 Chevy II SHP
JH 1969 396 375 Camaro SHP

Any thoughts? I have driven the car and I know it doesn't have 375 horse power unless something is terribly wrong.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

JH is also a 64 283. Easy to tell what you have. Smallblock has 4 bolts for the valve covers. Bigblock has 5 bolts.

That is strange because Chevy Mania / small block When I type JH it shows 64 327 Chevelle 220HP L-77 4SPD 4BRL
When I type 1967 Impala it shows 283 and 327 but no JH. 283 are "Gx" 327 are "Hx" or "Kx"

Sgt., can you post the block casting number for us? It is a raised number on the rear of the motor, slightly on the driver's side at the rear of the block just before the rear face of the block where the bellhousing bolts up. It may require a very strong flashlight and a mechanic's mirror to see it, but that will definitively tell us what the block is.

a 283 balancer is pressed on and has no retaining bolt in the center of the crank nose. Its noticeably smaller than a 327 balancer.
