a question about tachometers

My TR7 has had a 351w swapped in. The car came with a factory tach. The previos owner has it hooked up and it seems ok but I have a question. I had the throttle about 3/4 down and it read 6000 rpm. It has an 850 holley. I was wondering if the tach would be accurate since its a ford motor with triumph tach. Thanks for any help

What does the tach read at idle? If it wasn't modified for the V8 the tach probably reads high. You can get the tachometer recalibrated if you want the car to look stock. I have a TR7 I am putting a ford 5.0L in.

no, it's not reading correct...

any/all aftermarket tach's have a dip switch which you set for how many cylinders you do have, 4/6/8 so the pulse input total per second is correctly interpeted by the integrated circuit board and shown by the dial....

if there was a same oem tach design used in some other V8 model car, you might be able to swap or modify yours

I guess my dad was right. He said he floored it and I was trying to figure out how it held together going by the tach. I will get an aftermarket tach later on. I don't care about it looking stock, the 4bbl holley sticking out the hood gives it away. I would like to build an aluminum dash for it but don't have the skill to
