hi everybody, how are you?, i just have a question about vehical body weight, well anyways i have a 1980 Ford F150, i don't know how much it weights, but anyway would it equal put to be about the same as a 1985 Camaro or firebird, the reason i ask this is because yesterday i saw a camaro or firebird drive down the street and the driver must of saw me looking at the car because he just stepped on the gas and that way that car sounded and the speed it gained was unbelieveable, well i will get to the point the main point is that i want my truck to do that, right now it has a Ford 302 stock in it, i want that truck mainly for playing around with and also so i can pull up beside someone that wants to rev there engine up beside me and i will win, so basically i just want more power. i know it weights quite abit but is there any suggestions, i really want to but a rebuilt 351W in it, but i want the power that the camaro or firebird was getting, i will even put a Chevy motor in it, because where i live there much cheaper to rebuild then a Ford.
So all answers would be appreiated.

The only way to get a truck to move like a Camaro is to build the **** out of a motor. I drove my 429 Bronco today and for a 6,000 pound truck that 429 mooooooves.
Oh and look on your ID plate on the door, or b-pillar. It will tell you the GVWR.

Don't waste your money. If you want something fast get a car and build it. 302s build up fast, but they also loose power really quick when you add more weight. The only way to make that truck as fast as you are talking about would be to build it to the point of absolutely running like crap on the street.

The best way to find out how much your truck weighs is to take it to some scales and have it weighed. The weight of your truck can vary with different motors, options, how much fuel it hold etc...I had a 84 F150 4x4 with a short box and it weighed right around 5200 pounds with a 1/4 tank of gas, this might give you a ballpark figure. If you want the acceleration like one of those cars you seen today, you need torque and some low gears like 4.11.

thanks everyone, but here's another question, could that guy that saw in the camaro or firebird, have went into passing gear to make his motor sound like that.

well can the 302 at least squill the wheel and maybe do some pretty cool burnouts?

If i were you i'd be lookin' around for a 460 to stick in it, and take anything off the truck you can to save weight.

what to do
SUPER CHARGE that 302!

Traction is something that your f150 wont have. Leaf springs and a light *** end make these trucks wheel hop really bad. Buy a car, trucks just don't handle like a sporty type car does. Its just not as fun.

Thuggish was 20 y/o when he posted the question seven years ago. By now he's prolly got a wife and kids, mortgage, car payments, a job, etc. and very likely has come to terms (one way or another) w/his Ford truck vs. that 'awesome' Camaro. ;)

Like Cobalt said, you're a few days short on this thread, it's old!
