ok a friend of mine has a 90 model chevy 1 ton dually with a vortec 454 in it the motor is suppose to be out of a 94 model but anyway the block has been cracked in several places and its just worn out so he was thinkin of gettin another block to put all his stuff in and so my question is this is a vortec block different from a regular 454 block will the vortec heads bolt onto a regular 454 block or is it just the heads and intake that make it a vortec or does the block have somethin to do with it to thanks for any help on this
you will have to use a late model block with one piece rear main seal, the early blocks won't work because of the cooling passage differences, the vortec part is basically the top end.
thanks for the help thats good news cause he thought he was gonna have to get everything new but since he can get a new block thats a money saver thanks again for the help
Correct me if I'm wrong , but didn't the "Vortec" heads and intakes start coming out in late '95 early '96 ? I'm pretty sure the one from '94 will not be considered Vortec and positive the one from '90 will not be .
well i dont know what year the vortecs came out but this motor says its a vortec the motor may be newer than we thought the guy he bought the truck off of said that it was a 94 engine but he may be wrong. i guess we will have to run the numbers when we pull it out to make sure whay it is but again i thank you guys for the help
