Question for Barryk

Barryk , are you the fellow that was a chemist for S/W ? If so I would like to ask you a few questions . Did you actually do any experimenting with custom colors for the Ultra 7000 base ? I have a S/W mixing station at work and have no formula's for any custom colors . We have a color deck that has some but they flat out suck ! I am looking for some vibrant oranges like the HOK tangelo or the PPG sunset pearl , any ideas for some bright pearl like oranges and maybe some vivid yellows as well . Thanks .

I was miles from a "chemist", I was a paint rep. Do you have the Custom color fan deck, it's about an inch and a half thick? I thought there were some pretty good colors there. I don't have one in front of me but as I remember there were some pretty vibrant colors. They are not going to be as vibrant as HOK and even some that DuPont and PPG have because they just didn't target that market. I think S-W is short a few VERY clean toners that would be needed for super vibrant colors. I know I experimented with the ultra-low strength toners as candies mixing them with mixing clear and they sucked. It just wasn't clean enough.

But if you don't have the "Custom color" fan deck you may be missing out, I thought they were pretty good, but I am no custom painter either.

You can do some great three stage pearls and such using the mixing clear and dry pearls thought. And with the "mid coat" factory packed colors like Midcoat clear/red, Curran red midcoat clear, victory red , dp jewel green metallic you can do some nice stuff. There is always the "Mulit tone" color shifting toners as well.
Brian

To answer your question mrcleanr6 , I only work at this shop (for 1 more week) and that is the system we use so I was just curious if I could mix it up with S/Williams because I have access to the product . I would loooove to use the HOK line but where I am it is not easy to get , and I think it is pretty expensive . I am in Edmonton , and I know Carlsons body shop supply can get it but I think they order as required and it takes a day or 2 . What I am doing now is just helmets and bike tins and small stuff like that at home.
