question for the body guys.....
Hey all,
I'm repairing one of the fenders on my '76 trans am. I cut out the section full of rust and im not exactly sure on how to weld a new piece in. I know the piece should be tacked in, but, should i but weld it to the sides, or slide it underneath the existing metal and weld it from the front of the panel? Also.... where i am welding this piece in there is a support for the fender directly behind it. On one side i can slide the replacement piece under the existing metal, but on the other side the brace is welded to the fender so i cannot slide the piece underneath. What is the correct way to weld patch panels in? Should they be butt welded or should you slide the patch panel underneath the existing metal and weld from there? And, can i butt weld one side and slide the other side underneath the existing metal?
Thanks for you time everyone
