question on candy paint

Hi all im almost 16 and me and my dad are building a chopper for me and we are wondering on a paint job and we have a few picked out but the one i like best is where my gas tank and fenders and stuff would have black flames with a green candy over it and then the rest that wasnt flamed would be black and have a red candy over it and then we would a have a blue pinstripe around the flames.

Im just wondering if this would work and if it would even look cool at all? I havnt seen much on candy paint and i dont know if anything like this has even been done before.

if you can answer any of my candy questions plz mail me of post something

you can but........

you should spray your fenders etc. first..........with the red candy........

then clear everything with high build clear..........then you should scuff this.......lay your flames (using sg-100 intercoat clear) over whatever base.............then spray your green candy.....then shoot your final high build clear over everything..........

the reason you should do it this way is so the red candy and green doesn't mix together and drowned out the colors

good luck

It can be done, and I agree with the intercoat clear. the colors will bleed otherwise. But you have to shoot black then red, clear, then mask your flames and shoot black again then green.

What I would do is only Shoot the black base once. Then mask out the outline of the flames. Mask over the part that you want to be green, and shoot your red kandy followed by clear. Pull your masking and re-mask over the red and shoot the green Kandy. Pull your masking and shoot clear over all before doing the stripes. After the striping, clear again.

Check the manufacturer tech sheets for drying time. HOK intercoat clear is safe for tape after about an hour, and does not need to be scuffed if you topcoat in under 12 hours. the sooner the better though.

As for whether or not it will look good, I would get some chip charts and put the colors next to each other. Personally I would shy away from Red and Green together outside of Christmas decorations. But it's all about personal expression. If you like it... Run with it. Good Luck
