Question for owners of fiberlass cars?
I'm planning to build a fiberglass 32 ford 5 window. My concern is about the integrity of fiberglass bodied cars. I own a 23 T that I put together and I was not impressed with the workmanship of the body. My question is to anyone who owns a fiberglass 32 ford coupe. Do the doors close right? Do the doors stay in alignment or need periodic adjustment? Do the doors shake while driving down the road? Has the body developed waves after the bodywork and paint were completed? Has the body developed cracks? What is your biggest complaint about your glass bodied car? Who manufactured your body and chassis?

HEY THERE SHIFTY, ON THAT T BUCKET.....I`VE YET TO FIND A QUALITY BODY THAT DIDNT CRACK OR DISTORT. NOW ON THOSE COUPES.....WELL I HAVE A HARWOOD 32 3 WINDOW, NO CRACKS, DEFLECTIONS, OR PROBLEM DOORS. IT DOES TAKE SOME ADJUSTING OF THE DOOR LATCH TO GET IT RIGHT, BUT I HAVE NOT EXPERIANCED ANY DOOR JIGGLE. I USE A SUICIDE LOCK FOR SAFETY. BUY A QUALITY BODY AND YOU WILL HAVE NO TROUBLES LIKE THESE YOU STATE. MY CHASSIS IS FROM CHASSIS ENGINEERING. NICE PEICE. HAPPY HUNTING.
You will find that all/most fiberglass bodies will have ripples, waves and other imperfections until they have cured and that can take 6-8 months setting in the sun. They even have little air bubbles in them that will work themselves out a year or so later and pop the paint. They definitely need to be cured. If you see a slick Corvette even up to the 62 model, you are looking at a restored car. The 53-54 Vettes were horrible. Ted
A lot depends on your wallet and your abilities with a wrench and welding torch. There’s not a lot of original tin out there and the repro stuff is very expensive. Fiberglass is an alternative. Myself, I use fiberglass for the body and metal for the rest. Another consideration is power. In most magazine Rods I’ve seen, use Chevy/GM power, but I want a Ford in my Ford. For the last 10 year Ford is getting back the game and has some goodies for use gearheads. That only my opinion, of course. There’s a lot of retiring Mustang GT 5.0’s and tired T-Bird out there. Just a thought. :rolleyes:
