Question for painters

Sorry if I don't explain this very well but I'll do my best. I have a "ULTRA PRO" medium sized or touch up gun. I've just noticed that one of the little holes that direct air to make the pattern is smaller on one side than the other. When I spray something the spray pattern comes out at an angle to where the gun is pointed. On me bigger gun the holes are the same and the pattern comes out straight. Is there a reason for this or is something wrong with the gun? If it's not supposed to be this way can I drill it out to the same size? The gun is clean and it's not because one is clogged. Thanks for your help.

I would return it for another gun or at least a new air cap if it's new.
If it has been working and it just started spraying funny, the hole IS clogged with paint residue and just needs soaking in solvent for a day or 2 and cleaned out. I've never seen an air cap with different openings on oposite sides that are at the same position on the cap. I've seen different size openings on the same side but the other side is matching.
Drilling it out can put you in the same boat. These holes are angled as well as the exact size being critical. So a few .000 difference will screw the pattern as well. Clean it or replace it.

could be poor machining on the air cap if it is not plugged with paint and is smaller then the other side. I'd see if you can exchange it like bee said another gun or aircap. If it is plugged with paint, you can get small cleaning tips to help clear the holes or even use something like a garbage bag twist tie (the small wire) to try cleaning out the hole. As long as you don't use anything too hard to clean it out and damage. If you just drill out the hole, you are taking the chance of running it, and probably tougher to exchange I would believe. With one hole on the aircap larger then the other side, your pattern will be pushed over like you stated and it won't spray well for you.

I had a old HF siphon gun do that. Half way through using it the 1st time, the little bushings in one of the side spray holes on the air cap popped or blew out. Gun is junk now.
