Question reguarding painting over old OEM paint + primer sanding

Hi, I'm going to repaint my Camry tomorrow completely and its hood has some rock chips so I'm going to sand it down to bare metal, and then hit it with some etching primer. The rest of the paint I'm going to scruff up, but is otherwise in okay shape, just faded.

1) Do I need to sand the etch primer at all before shooting 2k high build primer down on it to sand
2) Do I need to shoot primer over the entire car after sanding/scruffing all the paint, or can I just lay the base coat. Its getting repainted the same color. I'm afraid of base coat adhesion problems pretty much.

Thanks guys!

1) If you apply High-Build wet on wet on the etch (or within the manufactuers open coat time), you don't have to scuff. That said, Etch dries rather quickly, so who knows. You probably going to be told to use Epoxy primer instead.

2)No, you do not need to prime the rest of the car. Unless you burn through to substancial bare metal, a good scuff with 400-600 depending on the paint is fine. To be safe however, Id use a sealer. It has minor filling abilities and provided holdout.

That said, make sure there are no problems in paint thats already on the car. No use painting over cracked, or peeling surfaces ;)
