questions about 4l60e

this is my first post on this forum but i read it every weekend @ work and have used ALOT of your advise in the past few months on my current project.

i am in the process of replacing my little brothers 4l60e in his 1996 4.3l 4x4 chevy. my question is regarding the output shaft of the 4l60e.

is there a difference in the 4x4 output shaft and the 2 wheel drive output shaft on the 4l60e. i have been told conflicting information and my search has lead me to a dead end.

his tranny is the 2 piece bell housing design. i have been shopping for a few days now and have found several good deals on 2 wheel drive tranny's. i called a reliable source here in OKC that i buy from regularly (ariel automotive) and he said it was the same, but a rebuilder told me they were different. ( since i am footing the bill for this i would like to get out of this fairly cheap. )

thx for the help Aaron

the 4x4 shaft is shorter than the 2WD shaft in a 4L60E.

You cannot cut a 2WD shaft down to the length of a 4x4 shaft on the 4L60E.

by this statement... the bell housing unbolts from the main tranny case?

If possible I would suggest that look at both the 2WD & the 4x4 output shafts side by side.......
