Questions on T5 vs. NV3500 Transmissions...

Hey guys....need a quick education here. I'm looking at two different transmissions for a 48 Ford ratrod I'm building currently. I'm going to run a Chevy engine and trans in it. Mild 350 and I want a 5 speed.

I have a lead on both a T5 out of a S10 and a NV3500 out of a V8 pickup. I know the S10 T5 is a common choice because of the shifter location however it's also not known for it's strength, especially the non World Class models.

From what I've read the NV3500 should have no problem living behind a close to stock 350 if I don't go crazy on it. However what issues may I run into on using this over the T5? How is the shifter location in relation to the T5? Would the hydraulic clutch setup be a benefit if since space will be at a premium on the truck?

I wouldn't even consider the S-10 T5, way too weak even in the World Class version because of the really low 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear ratios, gearing intended to help the small low powered 4 and 6 cyl engines. Even a mild 350 will eat it in no time at all. Trans is rated at like 175 ft.lbs. torque capacity.

Only viable T5 combo is to put the S-10 tail housing on a V8 T5.
