Quick dumb question on air hoses and lengths

This may or may not apply to body-work directly. I know when my brother-in-law was painting the frame on my truck, he adjusted his compressor regulator and counted the hoses and lengths of each hose.

I should have asked him right then and there what the reasoning is behind it.

I can assume it has something to do with pressure loss over the length of the hoses or something.

Can someone provide me more insight on this please? Is there a rough equation to run to calculate pressure?

thanks

Basiclly, the longer the hose, the more pressure you lose.....simple as that.

I think for ever 10 feet you lose 10psi I read it in car craft along time ago, that might not be right.
