Quick rust"helping" advise?

Hey guys. Well, long story short a buddys dad wants me to do his truck, quickly, and for not enough money for me to even make a profit. However, he's a good guy, so I told him Id do it for him.

Anyway, 84 ford pickup, not too bad on rust, but certainley is going to be cheated with his pricepoint and expectations. I do not support products like POR-15 and whatnot. I dont think they work, and I think there is usually a better solution.

That said, other than sanding, filling some pitting, and priming over, this rust will be totally untreated. I am wondering if anyone here seems to think it would be a wise idea for me to put some of this por-15 or the like over the rust on the body before I skim it with some mud? Maybe something is better than nothing after all?

For cars that just need the rust neutralized and arent show quality paint jobs, i have used Plasti-Kote Rust Not, it says it can have filler, or primer applied over top. I used it on a farm truck of mine last year and its held up fine. Remove as much of the rust as possible.
