Post Qurdrajet Bogging Down

I have a quadrajet on a SBC 350 and I had it out of hibernation today. Noticed hestitation and delay when pushing pedal to floor. After hestitation it will evently take off. Any suggestion on where to look?? I would like to get a crisper take off if possible. Never know when you have to out run a terroist..TX Dave Shank

Accelerator pump could be bad. If it's been sitting, you can try hand choking it. To hand choke, start it up and (warmed up too)rev the engine, while revving the engine hold the choke closed while holding throttle open. Do this a few times, you'll get the hang of it pretty quick, and not over rev or flood it out. This will clear small deposits in the fuel circuits (it especially helps with the idle circuits). If the problem worsens, you have major crap in the fuel circuits and need to disassemble the carb to clean it. Oh yeah, hold the rear butterflies closed too and open up the secondarys also when revving.

The two most common reasons I've run into for this would be 1. Accelerator pump mis-adjusted or not pumping good 2. Ignition timing too retarded. I would check for good pump squirt and base timing. Or you could just have sucked up some dirt passed the filter and the carb would then need an overhaul. If the hesitation goes away when she warms up it could also be a choke adjustment.

Man, I gotta type faster. Beat me by 2 minutes.

Take it out and rebuild it. Mine sat for a while and the fuel turned to gum and was plugging everything. It could be the pump, could be the float, could be the fuel filter, could be the gas - is it fresh? If it wasn't hesitating before, the timing may be fine. Your primary jets could have a shellac like build up. Just remove it, go to Autozone, pick up a kit and follow the instructions. Most hesitation in Q-jets is from mis-sized rods, atleast that was my experience. Also, check for vacumm leaks, gaskets and hoses that age can shrink and crack.
