Post RACE TRACKS...& Speedways

Hey Y'all,

I got to thinking some day I would like to make a trip around the country & Hopefully see as many Race Tracks as possible.

I did a search on HR.com , so this has not been done before.

I thought if we pooled together we could make a master list of Race Tracks.

Legal ones that is .

So if you would list a Race Track or Speed Ways(s) & if you can post a link to it.

Big & Small I love um all.

Any Race Track & Speed Way on the globe! list it here please.

Here's the one closest to me.

Daytona International Speedway

I have started a similar thread for Drag Strips here

it is across the states for you, but I go to it everyday. If your coming all the way to California, check out Infineon Raceway at Sears Point. http://www.infineonraceway.com/

We have Wed. night drags for everyone. Good luck on your trip!

Okay which thread do you list it in if it has both roundy rounds and a dragstrip? Schnitz knows this one. Met him when he was coming to the area and we went out to the dragstrip for awhile.
Wisconsin international raceway http://www.wirmotorsports.com/ . According to the wiki, some who have raced at the track. Matt Kenseth (94 and 95 track champ), Robbie Riser, Dick Trickle, Mark Martin, Alan Kulwicki (79 track champ), Ted Musgrave, Dave Marquis. The sauters.

Someone else has already done the work. I think that it is called "Speedway Directory" and has been advertised in National Speedsport News. It lists all types of race tracks around the U.S.

kenneth17 thought is would be easier as the lists grow to keep them separated.
Race Tracks & Speedways = Go fast turn left
Drag strip = GO FAST .. no turn

Henry the 32nd well I will look that up but my intention was comprise a list here @ HR.com so we can get all them ones that are secrets to the mass public like what Poncho 62 listed.

Is this a Kewl Idea?

Connecticut:
Stafford Motor Speedway...OLD...was a horse race track before cars were invented . Stafford, Ct

Waterford Speed Bowl. Waterford Ct

Thompson Speedway, Thompson Ct

No drag strips left...last one was Connecticut Dragway; started by an old time "body man, turned customizer, turned Auto show promoter" Frank Maratta Sr. The track is still there and owned by Consumer Reports for auto testing

Chasin Racin' has a good track locator. I would think most all tracks are on it too. Even the track I started racing at is on it. They also have quite a few of the Ghost tracks listed.

Klondike Drag Strip, West Pensacola ,FL
1/8 mile strip, raced there in the late 60's,most memorable event, E.J. Potter ,"The Michigan Madman" riding a Harley with a chevy v-8 mounted on it didn't shut down right and went thru the sand bed and 4ft tall pine trees that was at the end of the strip. He went so far into the trees that it toke two wreckers ,one hooked to the other to pull the bike out.
Alot of memories there. It is now one of the main roads to a sub division. As of a few years ago you could still see the painted lines and parts of the burn box.

In NY State:

Circle Tracks locally that I know -
Fonda Speedway, Fonda, NY, 40 miles West on I-90, Exit 26

Lebanon Valley Speedway, Lebanon Springs, NY (also has a good drag strip)40 miles East on US 20

Albany-Saratoga (Malta) Speedway I-87 Exit12 @ NY9 (I can hear their races late on a very quiet Friday evening as it's ~5 miles from me)

There are many more across NY State as well

I was heading down HWY101 going to Disneyland. It was kinda late, we were looking for a hotel and passed this oval right next to the highway. The photo above is the very sight you see from the road.Santa Maria Raceway
Of course this was one of my "treasures" that pop up on our vacations. I pulled in and the family got a super exciting night at the races. There is nothing like this any more around my town (we used to have a drag strip and oval about four miles from my house!) so it was the first time any of them had ever been to one. If you look at the photos or videos you will see that the grand stands are red-white-blue in color. The blue being on the bottom near the track. It never crossed my mind as to why these blue seats were empty being I havn't been to an oval dirt track in twenty years. We ran down and noticed all the dirt all over them! We brushed some away and took a seat to be pelted with little mud balls the whole race. What a blast for the family, these treasures make a road trip our vacation instead of the final desination. VERY COOL. A tear off flew up onto my sons lap, it is now hanging on the wall of his bedroom.

The Santa Maria track is one of the fastest tracks in the country. The ocean breeze that comes up every night keeps the track moist, you will rarely see it get dry. I get over there about once a year, always good racing.

I have a book at home with all the race tracks in the country listed if anyone would like to see it. I haven't looked at it for awhile but am not opposed to lending it out either.
