rack&pinion

It has been awhile since I have posted for several reasons, but things are looking up.
I have been told that a new rack and pinion could cost between $700-$1000 depending on the vehicle. How good are re-man units? Any one have experience with this?
Thanks.

rack & pinion

guess I should explain better. I was working at a shop and when a car would come in and they would find a rack leaking, they would tell the customer a new one would be between $700 to a $1000. I was wondering if any one had ever used a reman. rack and how did it work out and the cost? Hope this clears things up a bit.

Yep, I think that it was year, make and model that he was asking for.
Let's assume that we're talking about a PS rack for a '77 Mustang II.

NAPA Part # RAP-22200
Reman "long" rack ... includes the inner tie-rod ends.
Retails for around $250.00 CDN

Quote:
Features & Benefits
Each Rack Is Surfaced To OE Specifications To Prevent Leaking Between Chambers & To Extend The Life Of The Unit; 100% New Premium Grade, High Temperature Lip Seals & O-Rings Are Used To Ensure No Leaking & Quality Performance; All New Spool Valve & Rack Donut Seals Are Installed To Restore Internal Sealing Of The Rack & Pinion; All Racks Are Tested 100% For Proper Flow, Pressure & Leakage To Ensure Performance; The Steering System Fluid Must Be Flushed & Replaced With The OE Recommended Fluid To Ensure Proper Performance Of The Steering System
Reman racks are actually BETTER than new, IMO, because they install a stainless steel bushing into the aluminum bore.

Thanks 66 GMC for your response. I thought that there should be a less expensive way to go.
