Post rack and pinion in 49 Stude

Hello, I have a 49 Stude Starlight coupe and am planning on a rack and pinio conversion. This car has two idler arms (bellcranks) which the tie rods are attached to (front steer) connected by a center link. It seems that I could replace all this stuff with a rack and pinion with proper width and placement.(original pivot points 25" apart, late 70's mustang rack 24.5", just need a slight drop). My questions is: the idlers pivot in a radius similar to that of the steering arms (knuckle) keeping effective length of the tie rod through travel, will the switch have a bad effects such as on bump steer or ackerman - by removing the radius travel of the idler arms? Has anyone done a R&P transplant in a car like this?
