rack and pinion conversion kit 48 Pontiac, Olds, Buick

Hi guys, I'm installing a Fatman rack & pinion in 1948 pontiac and have a 94 cavalier rack. using origanal suspension.
I'm having some problems locating exactly how to mount it. My instructions
say to hold the same height as the stock and center it of coarse which I'm having no problems. I have talked to fatman and am still not clear.

My problem is how far forward or back to locate it. I tried to line it up in the same location as the origanal location it is way off. It looks like it would have to move about 3" forward.

Has anybody installed one of these ? any advise, pictures of a similar install would really help me. Thanks Jeff

Hey Jeff,
I can't recommend any R&P installation on a box equipped car but you can do some reading to gain some knowledge with some of the problems you are facing.
Check out the articles here:

And also here:
The Woodward article gets into the fore/aft aspects of rack installation and they both cover the bump info very well.
