Radio to Antenna hookup

Hi All
I have a problem connecting the yellow wire from my Custom Autosound radio USA-6 to my power antenna. The antenna has two wires, one red, and one green. Where do the wires go? I am hoping some one has had that problem and can help me out............Thanks, Jree

Howdy
Boy have I got a bunch of different hook-up instructions! But, they all have one thing in common...... Yellow goes to green wire and red goes to switched power. The black is ground. I thank you for your input. J-ree

Here is the manual and wiring diagram for your unit. Yellow does not go to green.

Antenna Wires

You say the red and green wires come out of the antenna. So, the red & green are probably the wires that drive the antenna up and down. Without a schematic it's impossible to be sure how they work but here are two likely scenarios.

1. Connect + to one wire and - to the other and the antenna goes up (or down). Reverse the wires it goes the other way. If it works this way you will need a relay to operate it. If it worked before, you either have the relay in the circuit somewhere or it is internal in the antenna motor.

OR

2. One wire goes to unswitched + (ie. it is hot all the time, key on or key off) and when the other wire is connected to + by the power antenna lead on the radio the antenna goes up. When + is removed from that other wire, it goes down. In this case it grounds through the body of the car when it's mounted. It is also likely that the red wire is hot all the time.

Without a schematic for the antenna, you will need to experiment to find out which way it works.

One hint: check for continuity (resistance = 0 ohms) between both wires and ground (metal on the car). If there is an open circuit so that resistance is infinite or so high you can't read it on an ohmmeter, you probably have the first circuit (#1) above.
