is a rag joint necessary with a rack and pinion? the rack is mounted in rubber mounts to the crossmember. I already have to install two universals to hook up my steering. 50 chevy truck with a mustang rack.
The factory rag joint does 2 things...compensates for misalignment and absorbs some vibration. If you are using u-joints in the connection, that's all you need.
In addition to what woodz428 said, you CAN buy universals that have built in vibration dampening. If you have not yet purchased your universals, it might be worth the extra bucks to get one. I think Speedway has them as well as the other major online parts outlets.
