Well Alexandro, I do have a comment. If what your painting doesn't require a near to exact color match, then go ahead, use whatever base coat your heart desires. Unfortunately, what I paint, I want the color to be precise and if need be, be able to be matched several years down the road so for me to use Duplicolor really isn't an option. If I had something that didn't require near to exact color match, I still wouldn't use Duplicolor. I know the product that I'm using now, I'm comfortable with it, my customers are prepared to pay the price for higher end base coat and clear coats so there is no need or want for me to change from what I'm doing....but if you want to use Duplicolor...go ahead, fill your boots.

rattle can SPOT painting

I know this is an old thread and I do agree with.... getting hold of a cheap spray gun and compressor is the way to go for a whole car paint job but....I would just like to know about cleaning up some small rust spots on my old daily driver....a great looking "show car" paint finish is not important here...I hate to use "rat rod" to represent what I have but let's just say....an old school "hot rod black" type finish (satin)....and all I wanna do is stop any little rust spots from growing....and then primer and satin it. What aerosol products has anybody used in that kinda deal?

i would rather brush or roll on latex paint than rattle can any vehicle with .5 mill paint job.
you'd save a lot more money using a $20 gal of latex paint, instead of 50 $5 spray cans.
either way you get a junk paint job that won't last.
i wouldn't even use rattle can for engine brackets.
and yes, this is a 4 yr old thread

By reading the posts on this thread I'm sure you know I'm not in favor of anything rattle can. But if you must. First of all, any and all rust must be removed. Then you could apply an aerosol etch primer, followed by what ever satin black you wish, one of the better manufacturer's of satin Black in aerosol is SEM.

I have a friend who has painted many cars with 1 medium sized oxygen bottle and a welding regulator. He has also used scuba bottles with oxygen. I bought a neiko HVLP spray gun for about 40.00. It works great. HF has a cheapy for under 20.00, they work good for primer. I would run out of patience with a bunch of rattle cans, but I'm sure they would do a good job.
