Need help.... Ive got a new 351w from Ford Racing. It makes a rattling or ping noise at around 3000 rpm or when I jump on the gas. I'm running 91 octane with timing set at 10 deg. Under 3000 rpm it runs great so I'm confused. Could it be detonation? or Fuel mixture?
Sounds like detonation. Did it always do this or did you change anything? True getting premium from a different gas station. Might just of had a bad batch of gas.
What ever you do don't keep detonating it. That is VERY harmful to the engine. Figure out what's going on. Get your timing straight, that's very important. You have a heavy vehicle so that engine will see a lot of stress.
If the timing doesn't cure it try running some racing gas and see if that cures it, if so, you may need to lower your compression ratio.
Do you know what the compression is? Does it have aluminum heads? What rear gears? Stall? etc... All these things can effect your pinging.
im not meaning to be a thread stealer.. but what about a chirping noise at wot... its like chirp. chirp chirpchirpchirp.... chirp lol.. its annoying and it just started about 10,000 miles ago.. its a 99 silverado with 86,000 miles
Small exhaust leaks (at the header mostly) can be known to make chirping noises.
