I need to have a few parts on my 54 Chevy re-chromed. Mainly bumpers and a few grill teeth.
How should I go about locating someone who'll do a good job for a fair price? Whats a fair price?
Are there things I can do to prep the parts and reduce the re-chrome costs?
Is it better to simply purchase new pieces?
I just gotta shine!!!
Do some resurch down at the local body shops.Ask if they recomend anyone, some will problely have a drop off servace. If that doesn't work get with a car club in your area. You do belong to a car club don't you? If not join one the welth of information is well worth it and who knows you might even meet someone with the same interests as you.
You bring up a good point about the potential use of joining a car club. However, I did belong to one for Camaros (past car) and it seemed that every meeting was about planning and scheduling things to do and not much about cars.
I would love to find one that really delt with restoration, customs, mechanics, wiring... Hey just like this place!
I'll keep an open mind and look around for one that may involve the 50's type cars I'm into now. It will be hard to beat this place though.
Anyone know of a good CAR GUY club in the Detroit area?
If you can get to swap meets, there are usually folks that come there with re-chromed bumpers for sale for Chevys. Plating companies are dying by the dozens because of environmental laws and the price is going up. Usually you get a better deal with the plating companies if you take all your needs at once. Several small trips will send you to the poor house.
