Re-use sway bar?

Hey guys so im working on mlthe chassis of my 76 Monte..im trying to re-use as much as I can...for example control arms and spindles and send them to the powdercoater..im just going to purchase those energy suspension bushings..should I reuse my sway bars? Car is only for street purposes

Realistically they will last forever.

I have a 454 in my monte and it will have some power behind it..but my intentions are not to race..but who knows..i am in the process of rebuilding rear end with a posi unit...does any of this information matter? Or will cause me to get thivker sway bars?

Your choice..Martin is correct in that they last a long time but if you wish for improved handling and maybe some autocross is in the future or you want to carve corners as well as go fast then some aftermarket sway bars may be in order..

What are your expectations? Realistically they will last forever. But if you are rebuilding everything anyway AND you are thinking about a little better handling now would be the time to go a little bigger. Or poly bushings (I personally have only on one end and rubber on the other so it get the best of both).

I know a little bit of that and gas shocks and a little quicker steering box and my Gran Sport made a BIG transformation when it comes to handling, that baby sticks pretty good.

Unless they are badly rusted or bent, reuseing them will be fine.

If you're going to lower the Cg, stiffen the chassis (boxing and/or roll cage), or use super sticky tires, then aftermarket bars would be a good addition. But it sounds to me like you really don't need to go aftermarket. You could, however, use the stiffest factory bars if you can afford them or source them used.

To clarify, bigger sway bars in addition to these mods could help handling, but bigger bars are not needed just because of these mods.

Actually it could be argued an unmodified car will be helped more than a modified car by using them.

In your case I'd put it back w/new bushings and see if that's enough. Adding a larger set of OEM bars will only need a different set of bushings and possibly different bushing brackets if the bar on it now is a lot smaller than the replacement. I ran into this on F-body cars.
