really stupid question but i need help

hi,
i really feel stupid but i'll not sleep if i have no responde to this question

today i was changing the shift lever with a new one from b&m i followed the instruction and everything went pretty well

while i was finishing the job sitting in my car my friend moved the car to get something under it i watched the shift lever and it was in first gear ( automatic)
after that the car shop closed so we had to go and i didn't have the time to check on the trans lever what was going on

is it normal that a car can be moved when it is in first gear?

the car wasn't running and when i putted the shift lever in park it locked the wheels

i hope it is understandable sorry for my english i'm italian,

thanks,
marco

If I am reading this right then yes it is normal. In first gear the car will move when it is not running. You will be moving one side of the torque converter most likely.

Marco,

The only dumb question is the one NOT asked.

I seriously doubt any of us were born with the knowledge to build a hot rod or any other car/truck for that matter. AT one point we all asked questions.

I know I for one am not done asking questions. Not in this lifetime anyways.

some old Ford cars will move in park if the linkage is out, became so big of a problem with them jumping out of park that Ford sent out stickers to every known Ford owner, instructing them to place them in the center of the dash. they basicly say to fully engauge in park, set the parking brake b4 getting out. my '67 Falcon has 1 of them still in it, and it does have trouble locking into the park pawl.
