rear axle swap (8.2" bop)

Hi, I have a 8.2" bop rear end which I want to replace axles on. I have already replaced all seals and bearings on a old axle but I donīt remember the process. Because of every seal is new I donīt want to remove them if not necessary. So my questions is what do I need to remove to swap the axles and what do I need before I begin?

thanks in advance

It's been a while, but I believe the axle seals go in the housing ends on this rear end. I think the bearings are the sealed ball bearings, so the seal would be inside the housing and not outside of the bearing.

You need to remove the brake drums and remove the 4 bolts and nuts that hold the axles in. Then pull the axles out. You may need a large slide hammer to get the axles out because sometimes the bearings are tight in the housing.

Why do you need to replace the axles?

Because one of the axles is worn down where the bearing is mounted so the bearing doesnīt fit as good as it should be. And I also restored/upgraded every other part in the rear end so I thought that it was for the best to change the axle because they was so old and worn that it may damage the differential and pinoin if they cracked.

Do the bearings press on the axles or do they go in the housing ends?

So one of the bearings went bad and spun on the axle causing it to wear?

yes, exactly. It was not the new ones who went bad, it was the bearings that was on the axles before the rear end restoration.
