Hey thank you both. That is with i needed to know. Now i can buy this rear end and use the diff in one that i had bought awhile back,it was sapose to be a posi and it was.it turns out it has a spool with 4.88 gears.but anyway it is the right width and has good axles.Hey i just thought about that 2.50 gear ratio, would it be to tall of a gear for a AOD trans?I currently have the option of a C-4 or AOD.Thank's again, ziggy

Hey Lonestar,Let me clairify,I had bought a rear end assembly for a 56'f-100 that I'am helping my son put together. The rear end was the right width, but turned out to have a spool with 4.88's.Then I found this WGB-AB rear end and was trying to find out if it had the 28 spline that I needed and I thank you again for the info.So that brings us to the 2.50 ratio of the WGB.I know this is a tall gear and what I was wondering was if it would work behind a AOD.We are going to use a 289 engine. We have allready done the frame(blasted and painted)new spring bushings and pins, brakes, wheel cylinders and put a duel stage master cylinder with booster on the frame.Like I said the first rear end we bought we were told it was a positrack so we thought that would be nice.Well it was deffinetly a posi with a spool. We did not find this out until after we had installed it and noticed the rear wheels sliding when we were rolling the truck in the yard.So anyway let me know what you think about the 2.50 and the AOD trans,289 combo.Thank's,Ziggy

The 2.5 will work but it is sure going to be a dog until it gets up to around 60 or so. The overdrive should keep you around idle on the highway. The 4.88 is a lot of gear on the street. You would be better off in the 3.56 to 3.73 range in my opinion.

The final drive on an AOD is 0.67 to 1 -- so that would turn a 2.50 into about a 1.65 ---
When the AOD first came out Ford mostly used nothing lower than a 3.08, and that was in cruisy luxury cars..... I agree with Lonestar, look for a 3.55 or 3.73 or similar..... |
