Currie builds some nice stuff but is way overpriced. There are a lot of late model mustang rears or 8inch ford or 9 inch ford rears laying around cheap that will be the correct width for your truck.(bought 2 friday 100 bucks for both) .Any local shop can rebuild the center section for you for a lot less cash.(if it even needs it) If your not going drag racin the 8inch ford works well but not a real good choice of gears. The 9inch has a ton of gear choices if you need to change later.Lenny what are you using for a front end??? The reason i ask is for the bolt pattern on the wheels is easyer to keep the pattern the same front and rear if you want to have a spare with your truck.(some dont care they just keep a AAA card LOL)If you have the old rear still measure it from axle flange to axle flange(not backing plates) Let us now what the width is and we can help better.

I agree with PHAT! A Ford 8 or 9 inch axle assembly has many advantages over the GM type rear. First is that you have the drop out differential design, that if needed, allows the removal and exchange of the gear "pumpkin" in about an hour. Another advantage is the axle retaining plate design, which is superior to the GM "C" clip axle retention design. Measure the width of the stock rear in your truck and then go to the salvage yard and check out a Maverick or Granada with a 8 inch. If this is to be a street rod with an occasional drag strip blast a 8 inch will work fine. Try to get one that is within an inch of your stock truck rear axle assembly width. The granada/merc monarch leaf springs actually ride very nice and frame mounting brackets can be made very easily. I suspect that you will be using a SM BLK Chev/turbo 350 trans combo for power. The stock Chevy driveline you have can be shortened and with a Napa#372 conversion U-joint, it will bolt right up to the stock 8 inch ford rear diff yoke. GOOD LUCK ON YOUR PROJECT!
