rear end for s10 V8

I've just installed a 350 cid engine and a 700r4 in my 1985 s10 4x2 blazer. Does anyone have any suggestions on good posi rear end for this combo. Posi rears for 2 wheel drive s10's are rare and 4x4 ones are 4" wider and most 4x2's are 7.5' ring gear.I would like something with the 8.5' ring gear. Anyone done this and found something that doesn't cost a small fortune. Open to any suggestions Thanks

The later 2 wheel drive 4.3 5 speed S trucks and Blazers had the 8.5 rear end. This would be the easiest swap for you. The "posi" that comes in these rear ends is the Governor Lock. You will probably want to change that pretty soon after you install it. I recommend that you get a good rear end with the gear ratio that you want with a standard differential and put in an Eaton Posi or a Duragrip. You will like it much better.

You will find more information and parts for sale here. http://www.s10forum.com/forum/transmission-and-rearend/

that 2wd 8.5" is rare and expensive when you find 1... I'v been told Ford Explorer 8.8" rear ends bolt in with a little finesse.. there commonly found with 3.73's and Traction lock limited slip/ can be found for a couple hundred at many junk yards. also '95+ have disc brakes

ford explorer rears bolt under these trucks so do toyota pickup rears, same pack spacing distance as the s10 trucks

shock mount mods is all needed

many toys and explorers are LSD or posi

i have some toy axles out back '84-88 style and i drive a 91 s-10 2wd pickup so ive been here measured done my research

gonna use toy 4.10 axle under mine and ditch the 7.625 3.08 open junk(4.3L Z 700r4 combo) and combine the toy leaves with the s10 leaves so i can haul more than 1800lbs on it steadily

the 4x4 toy axles are 8" theres a page online i use to decode the axle code on the tag on the firewall, it tells you ratio and ring gear diameter without even having to look at the axle at all, for example body tag axle code G292 is 4x4 8" 4.10 non LSD

around here the explorer axles are only 75 bucks complete with sway bar and all

dirt common

I believe the drivers side axle shaft and housing on the 8.8 is 3" longer and in total a few inches wider axle flange to axle flange but alot of guys buy a short side shaft and cut the axle tube this centers the diff and gets the width closer to the 7.5
