rear end swap
Hi, I have a 49 pontiac silver streak and I want to swap in a lock-up rear end, I don't care what make, ford, GM, mopar. Anyone have a idea what I need? Thanks

If moneys not an option just grad up the rear you want, take it to a shop and have it narrowed and your spring pearches welded on. You next option would be to measure your rear from hub to hub and measure your spring pearches and start looking what will swap in with minimal work. If a rear you find is only marginaly wider you can just run more backspacing on the rear wheels to make up for the diffrence. This is the steps I know of and the way I have went about it. Hope this helps some.

pontiac and Chevy shared the same body/ chassie at that time, and the popular swap into the '49-'54 Chevy's is the 2nd gen Camero rear ends. they bolt in.
