rear end width...what are the effects?

I got a 9 inch rear end out of a 65 Thunderbird and its slightly wider than the Cougar 8 inch rear end. My question is "how does a wider rear end affect handling"? I'm talking an extra inch on each side but NOT poking out the wheel well. Oversteer? Understeer?

Can you vary your wheel offset any? If you're using aftermarket wheels, it's easy to use a different offset but you won't notice 1" per side unless you are really into autocross or something like that and I would think you might notice some under steer more than over steer. You can also play games with different size sway bars, wheel and tire widths and ever air pressures to change how the car handles but generally, you want from front track to be wider than the rear. If you want both ends to be the same, go with wheels that are offset 1" more than the fronts....

rear end width...what are the effects.

Right now I have a regulator 8 inch that was out of a Fairlane (58), it turned out to be too short for me (rubbing) so I got a hold of a 9 inch (60). It looks like the spring perches are in different places but thats about the extent of it. But I heard that the granada disc brake upgrade pushed the front wheels out a bit. is their any truth to that?

Sorry dont have an answer but on my pryer vehicle (03 Terminator) the IRS was removed and replaced with a Built 8.8 and it was 1" shorter on each side.
All I did was added 1" spacers behind the rear rims to maintain the oem stagger. You could simple add 1" spacers on the front and achieve the same results.

(I happen to have x long racing studs on all wheels so I didnt have to do anything else)

I used spacers (not adt's) so they just slid over the current studs, they're all over e bay and cost is cheap.
