If the origional assembly tag is still there, by the code (FORD). If it is an origional rear in the origional car, a door code will tell you (FORD).
If you have neither of the above, raise the rear axle off the ground and turn the wheel(s) by hand. Notice the number of revolutions of the rear flange (u-joint) as compared to one full turn of the wheel. This will give you a close idea of the ratio (i.e. if the rear flange turns three times as the wheel turns one full revolution, you have a 3.00 to 1 ratio).
Also while turning the wheel, if both wheels turn in the same direction, you have a locking rear. If the wheels turn opposite directions, then you have a open rear.
