I have a 1966 Impala with a 530 HP small block. 3200 stall. I currently have 3.73 rear gears with one tire fire. Here is my situation........

I am going to switch to the 700R. But am unsure wether I should go with 4.11's or 4.56 rear gears. Either with the overdrive will be under 2600 RPMS at 65 mph which I really like. But with the lower gears in the 700R would 4.11's be the ticket? Or 4.56's? And is it true that a 700R can have a adustable stall? And how realiable are 700R when build properly....?? My turbo 350 has been bullet proof. But I want the best of both worlds..... Light to light quickness. And freeway capablitity......

And with my rear end. I have the 10 bolt setup now. When I switch gears will the ten bolt hold up? Or do I have to go with a 12 bolt?

Any help would be greatly apprecitated........

A stock 700R4 will handle to 400 HP. and torque. I doubt you can build one to handle the 530 HP in your 4000+ pound car unless the HP comes on late. Then you have to worry about early torque. Hook up both tires and you probably wish you had a stronger tranny than the 700R4. The 10 bolt is a lot stronger rear than many give it credit. At least you have the right carrier for the 4.11 or 456. If I were going to give up the 10 bolt, then I would spend my time and effort on a 9' Ford. Tranny: why not a 5 speed manual OD?

So with the 3.73's the carrier good for 4.11's or 4.56's. So what is the next step. Just gears and new axles and lockers? And what is the final gear ratio on a 5 speed manual? I have talked about a five speed manny of times? But my tranny guys always trys to talk me out of it...... Say's I will get tired of shifting.... And that a strong automatic is hard to beat.....

I honestly think it would make my car a lot more fun to drive. And the manual would sound great.....

What is the cost of a good 5 speed manual??

And if I was to sell my Street/Strip T350 with deep pan, 3200 stall and trans cooler. What is the going rate for that setup...?

I have the th400 now and was thinking about going to a th350 due to less loss of power. What do you want for the tranny?
