Rear gear difference

At the moment I have a 2.73 rear gear. This is mated to a th-350 with a 2200 stall. Thats connected to a 350 with 9.6:1 compression and a XE274 cam with all the goodies. Right now the take off is strong. But i was thinking it should be a lot stronger with some deeper gears. I was wondering how much of a difference would i notice if i switched to a 3.55 or 3.73 rear end? Would it be awesome or would it be just a little bit better? Has anyone done a similar thing? Could you explain the difference?

I moved your question to the " Rear End " section....so it would be noticed more....

You should see and FEEL a large difference.

As it is now ( 2.52 X 2.73 ) you low gear ratio is 6.880 to 1

With a 3.73 rear end ratio..it would increase to 9.996

That should feel like another 100 Horsepower ! !

going from 2.73 to 3.73 should knock about .5 off your 1/4 times. But say good bye to low rpm crusing.

Well as it is now, I only drive my car to town and back (25 miles round trip) and on rare occasions i drive on the interstate. Only time i would really be on the interstate for long times is shows and things of that nature. The way gas prices are going it looks like im gonna have to buy another car just to get around in.

So it should feel like another 100 horsepower? Thats pretty awesome.

ya I would say 3.55 - 3.73 would be your best compromise
