rear gear ratio with 700R4?
i plan to swap my rear end out on my 68 firebird. It's a 10 bolt open rear with what i think are 3.08 gears. I am going to eventually swap out the transmission to a 700r4 and I was wondering what rear gear ratio would best suit this swap. the overdrive on the 7004r would allow a higher ratio, but i believe the only options i have for the 8.2" 10 bolt are 3.55, 3.90, 4.11, and 4.56... which one should i use?!
(this is not a drag racer, but more of a street/strip application) thanks for the help, Brad |

The 3:55, or 3:90 is what you want. That will put your highway rpm around 2100 to 2600rpm.

I am running a 9 inch Ford rear with a 200R4, which has a little better first gear with 225/70r15 tires and I am using 3.55 gears on the hiway about 70MPH I am turning about 2400 RPM's on level ground.
