Rear glass won't fit
I wanted to test fit the rear glass in my 59 American before I finish the body and it won't quite go in. I'm afraid to push any harder than I have. The rubber is after market and may be a bit to thick although I purchased rubber for the windshield too and it went in easily. Anyone had this problem?
Thanks, Ed |

Did you try spraying a little soap and water.

X2 on the soap and water, also letting the rubber sit in the sun for a while.
If the rubber is really too tight, it'll crack the window while you install it, or it'll crack the morning after you install it. If you have to force it with blunt instruments and some dishsoap or carwash mixed with water, it's too tight. Don't ask me how I know. All I'll say is I know it 3 times now... One of my customers didn't want me to install his glass, he had another guy do it...a supposed professional glazier...he's got 2 cracked windows now. Later, mikey

Thanks for the replies guys. I did use soap and water and a plastic hammer and a chunk of wood to try to seat it in but it looks to be to tight. The rubber is quite flexible and it was 105 degrees in my garage yesterday but it still won't go. I'm afraid to hit it any harder replacing the rear glass would be tough as the only glass available for this car is used stuff. It appears to be tight on the inner seam. I might have to clearance it but don't want to get impatient now. its tough though when things aren't working out and you're blinded by sweat. Did get it on tires and out of the garage for the first time in ages though.... I needed the motivation. I would love to have paint on it by years end but still have to figure out how to put the wing windows back in as no rubber is available for them.
Thanks guys. Have a great holiday. Ed |

I've looked at your first two original pictures and it appears something is wrong on the passenger dogleg causing the window and molding not to seat properly. I would suggest removing window and molding then use a piece of 2x4 to tap in the groove to correct. Actually, you may have to whack it pretty good to get it aligned properly.
